The Pacific Cod is a massive fishery which grows every year around the world. This is due to the popularity of the fish and its very light flavor and soft flaky white meat. Pacific Cod is similar to Atlantic Cod, but has some small differences. Pacific Cod is a very popular type of fish for the ever famous Fish & Chips. It is so popular, that is has a massive harvest every year! Between 1.5 million and 2 million tons of Cod are caught every year, around the Pacific Ocean, of which around 300,000 tons are caught in Alaska alone! It is only second in place for size of harvest to the Alaskan Pollock, which brings in a yield of 3-4 million tons per year! Pacific Cod can be found as North as the Bering Sea. Pacific Cod can also be caught as far South as Los Angeles. This fish is often found swimming in huge schools. Due to its flavor and texture this fish can be cooked in many ways. It is delicious baked, fried, smoked and any other way you can imagine. Before freezers were invented, Cod was salted and shipped around the world, where in Brazil, Portugal, Spain and Italy it became known as Bacalao. Thanks to many technological advances, many parts of the world enjoy Cod either in frozen or fresh form!
