Ikura Omelette: Salmon Roe Breakfast Recipe
Ikura Omelette: Salmon Roe Breakfast Recipe
An ikura omelette combines softly cooked eggs with chilled prepared salmon roe. The key is to treat ikura as a finishing ingredient: cook the omelette first, remove it from direct heat, then add the roe just before folding or serving.

Why Add Ikura After Cooking?
Prepared salmon roe is valued for its delicate membrane and characteristic pop. Direct high heat can change that texture, so use it as a finishing ingredient rather than frying it with the eggs.
Which Salmon Roe to Use
Chum Salmon Caviar is a classic ikura option. Coho Salmon Caviar offers another Pacific salmon profile. Because pearl size, membrane strength, salinity, and flavor vary by species, lot, and cure, check the current product description rather than assuming one fixed texture.
Serving Ideas
Serve with toast, potatoes, avocado, cucumber, or a simple green salad. For more ideas, see our Red Caviar Recipes.

Global Seafoods North America has worked with salmon roe for decades. Our practical experience is why we recommend adding prepared ikura after cooking and treating each production lot according to its actual texture and cure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should ikura be cooked inside the omelette?
Prepared salmon caviar is better added after the eggs are cooked and the pan is off direct heat.
Which salmon roe is best for an omelette?
There is no universal winner. Chum and Coho are good starting points, while other salmon roe can also work depending on the product and lot.
