Sockeye Salmon Guide: Whole Fish, Fillets, Flavor, Cooking & Sourcing
Sockeye Salmon
Sockeye salmon is a wild Pacific salmon known for deep red flesh, firm texture and a pronounced salmon flavor. Global Seafoods currently offers two core Sockeye formats: Fresh Sockeye Salmon and Wild Sockeye Salmon Fillets.
Whole Sockeye vs. Fillets
Choose whole fresh Sockeye when you want to portion the fish yourself and use collars, belly and trim. Choose Sockeye fillets when you want faster preparation and consistent portions.
Cooking
Sockeye is generally leaner than King Salmon, so avoid unnecessary overcooking. Grilling, roasting, baking and pan-searing all work well. See our Sockeye Cooking & Recipe Guide and Grilled Sockeye Guide.
