Easy King Crab Salad Recipe

Most crab salads you will find at restaurants are full of filler, calories, imitation crab meat, and excess mayo all for a premium price. As delicious as they may taste, you can prepare a healthy crab salad at home that costs much less. Our recipe is easy to make and can be eaten as a light lunch, a snack, or even served as crab meat appetizers.

[CRACKER]

The main feature of our recipe is real crab meat and not the imitation filler you will find in most commercial diners. You can dress up your own crab salad with any number of additions such as dill, celery, and herbs if you like. In our experience, sometimes a simple recipe is the best way to let the taste of fresh king crab meat shine through.

Spicy-Lime Crab Salad Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh but very finely chopped jalapeño
  • 5 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons of cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil
  • A dash of salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly chopped cilantro
  • tablespoon of pure honey
  • teaspoon of minced fresh garlic
  • 1 large ripe heirloom tomato, washed and cut into four 1/2-inch-thick slices
  • pound of fresh lump crab meat
  • 1 of fresh Hass avocados diced
  •  cup of freshly minced red onion
  • Tortilla chips, preferably handmade, but store-bought fresh chips will suffice

Preparing Your Tomato and Avocado Crab Salad

Making this gourmet treat is quick and easy. Start by taking a small bowl and adding in your honey, garlic, vegetable oil, jalapeño, lime juice, olive oil, and chopped cilantro. Gently stir the mixture until everything is incorporated. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Unlike our boiling crab recipe, the picked-over fresh king crab meat will go directly with the dressing. In a separate bowl, place your crab meat and three tablespoons of the dressing mixture. You can add more salt and pepper according to your preference. With this healthy recipe, you don’t have to worry about crab salad calories, and to top it off, this preparation is even keto-friendly!

To plate, arrange your tomato slices on a plate and lightly season with salt. This will bring out the moisture and the sweetness of the fruit which is a perfect complement to the tangy crisp flavor of king crab. On top of the tomato slice, add avocado, your crab mixture, and then a dash of lemon and black pepper. Garnish with a sprig of cilantro and then drizzle a bit more of your dressing mixture over the whole creation. Serve with a side of fresh tortilla chips for crunch.

A Healthy Twist On A Seafood Favorite

For those looking to make the already healthy dish even more diet-friendly, you can ditch the chips and serve the crab salad on its own. Top the salad cherry tomatoes and serve on a plate with the dressing mixture for a light meal. When thinking about crab meat calories remember that there are only 96 calories per 100 grams of cooked king crab.

In addition to being light on calories, crab meat has a lot more to offer. Not many people think about crab meat nutrition when they are making a crab salad, but you should. King crab meat is an excellent source of lean protein and only has 1 gram of fat per 100 grams of crab meat. It is also a rich source of minerals such as zinc and copper. For those looking to boost their vitamin intake, crab meat is a rich source of vitamin A, C, and several B vitamins.

Make It A Meal

To take your crab salad with avocado up a notch, pair the fresh seafood flavor with a gentle but full-bodied white wine. Our recipe serves two, but you can simply double up if you want to expand your meal to include additional guests. We would love to hear your feedback on our recipes or even feature some of your own.
