Between 1.5 million and 2 million tons of Cod are caught every year, around the Pacific Ocean, of which around 300,000 tons are caught in Alaska alone! It is only second in place for size of harvest to the Alaskan Pollock, which brings in a yield of 3-4 million tons per year! Pacific Cod can be found as North as the Bering Sea. Pacific Cod can also be caught as far South as Los Angeles. This fish is often found swimming in huge schools. Due to its flavor and texture this fish can be cooked in many ways. It is delicious baked, fried, smoked and any other way you can imagine. Before freezers were invented, Cod was salted and shipped around the world, where in Brazil, Portugal, Spain and Italy it became known as Bacalao.
