Air Fryer Albacore Tuna: Garlic-Paprika or Soy-Ginger
Albacore Tuna in the Air Fryer
This recipe cooks two albacore portions with a small amount of oil. Choose garlic-paprika seasoning or a soy-ginger marinade. Keep the pieces in one layer and use a thermometer to determine when they are ready.
Serves: 2. Preparation takes about 10 minutes with thawed fish, plus preheating and cooking. The marinade option adds 15 minutes of refrigerated marinating time.
Ingredients
- 2 albacore portions, 6–8 oz each, of similar thickness
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Lemon wedges and chopped parsley for serving
Optional Soy-Ginger Marinade
Instead of the garlic-paprika seasoning, combine 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 teaspoon honey, 1 teaspoon grated ginger and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Omit added salt until you have accounted for the soy sauce. Use a little of the cooking oil to lightly coat the fish after draining if needed.

Instructions
- Prepare the fish. Thaw frozen tuna in the refrigerator according to its package directions, including any instructions about opening or removing wrapping. Pat dry and check that both portions have similar thickness.
- Choose a seasoning. For garlic-paprika fish, lightly coat with oil and season. For the marinade option, coat the fish and refrigerate for 15 minutes, then drain, discard the used marinade and blot excess moisture. Do not add the full dry seasoning as well.
- Preheat. Set the air fryer to 375°F and preheat if recommended by its manufacturer. Follow the appliance instructions for basket preparation.
- Cook in one layer. Leave space around the portions. Turn carefully partway through cooking if recommended for your appliance. Begin checking around 4–5 minutes, earlier for thin pieces; this is a first check, not a promised finish time.
- Check the center. Insert a thermometer from the side into the thickest part and cook to 145°F internally. Continue in short increments if needed. If the marinade browns too quickly, reduce the setting and continue checking the center.
- Serve. Transfer to clean plates and finish with lemon and parsley. Serve with prepared vegetables, rice or a salad.
FoodSafety.gov recommends 145°F for fish. Air fryers, starting temperatures and portion thicknesses vary, so a fixed number of minutes cannot reliably define rare, medium or fully cooked fish.
Tips and Variations
Cook in batches if the basket is crowded. Check each portion separately and remove it when ready. For a different seasoning, replace the paprika with lemon zest and chopped herbs. Honey-based marinades can brown quickly, so watch the surface as well as the internal temperature.
The recipe contains fish. The marinade adds soy and sesame; standard soy sauce may contain wheat. Check labels if making a gluten-free version.

Which Albacore to Buy
Frozen Albacore Tuna is a preparation option in 5 lb and 10 lb total orders, shipped with dry ice. This recipe uses two portions, not an entire retail pack. Confirm the current cut and individual piece sizes if you need ready-sized steaks.
Fresh Whole Albacore Tuna requires cutting and portioning before this method. Confirm its weight and preparation; do not use whole-fish weight as a boneless-yield estimate. Canned tuna is already cooked and is not a substitute for the raw portions in this recipe.
