Smoked Tuna Pasta: Garlic-Lemon, Tomato & Pasta Salad
Three Smoked Tuna Pasta Recipes
Choose garlic and lemon for a light sauce, tomatoes and olives for a heartier plate, or short pasta with vegetables for a chilled salad. Sauce preferences are personal; cream-based sauces can also work with smoked fish.
Use prepared hot-smoked tuna intended for ready-to-eat service, following its package directions. Check the method and availability on our Smoked Yellowfin Tuna listing. Uncooked Ahi Tuna Steaks must be cooked separately before use; see our smoked tuna cooking recipe.

Texture and Substitutions
Long pasta suits the garlic oil; ridged short shapes hold tomato sauce; spirals are easy to eat in a salad. Drained canned tuna can replace smoked tuna, but the smoke flavor will be absent. There is no need to buy a particular canned brand for these recipes.
If you prefer creaminess, add a spoonful of sour cream or crème fraîche to the warm sauce. Adjust the lemon afterward. The amount of sauce and the product's smoke intensity matter more than a rule that dairy must be avoided.
Serving and Storage
Keep the pasta salad chilled, including during transport. Reheat leftovers to 165°F, following FoodSafety.gov guidance. Briefly warming prepared fish is not the same as reheating an entire stored meal.
Follow the fish and dairy labels, keep ingredients refrigerated and assemble close to serving. Mixing ingredients does not extend their storage life. FDA advises higher-risk people to avoid refrigerated smoked seafood unless it is in a cooked dish; see FDA guidance.
